It was in 1776 that Betsy Ross made - sewed the very 1st Flag. But on June 14, 1777 that US passed The Flag Act. It was to make sure that there 13 Stripes that were to alternate red and white colors> It also stated in the Act that  union be 13 stars, white in a blue in color and this was to represent a new Constellation. The colors are symbolic. They were not just chosen for any reason. The Red was meant to show the hardiness and also the valor that was used to establish this country. The white was to represent purity! The blue color was for justice!
